Can I bring friends or family to the runs?

Reno Running and Fitness requires that all participants be at least 18 years of age. Reno Running and Fitness requires a one-time liability waiver be signed by guests in order to attend and determine if Reno Running and Fitness is right for them. If they would like to join, then we ask that they officially register in order to keep it fair for everyone who has paid to be a part of the program. We do not have liability insurance covering anyone under the age of 18, so we ask that you not bring minors to run with the group.

Can I bring my dog to the group runs?

Yes. The trail is a dog friendly trail. We request that you be respectful of other people in the group. The Sparks Marina requires dogs to be on a leash at all times.

Can I listen to music when we run?

Yes, but safety is always a priority. We recommend you be cautious while running and respectful of others.

How do I know if I am ready for Reno Running and Fitness Program?

We have all different levels of programs. If you can walk briskly for 30 minutes then you can begin with the beginning running program as long as you are medically able to participate.

How do I register for a training program?

There are two steps in registering and they are all quick, easy and secure!

  1. To get started (step 1), browse through our online listing of training programs; therein, initiate the registration process by selecting the corresponding ‘Register’ icon.
  2. The second step is to finish the registration process by providing a bit more information about yourself and your training program, and submitting payment for your training program. This step is completed through active.com

Please note: after registering through active.com, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration along with details on what to expect next.

How will I know where and how far to run?

Every program has a distance that is determined on the training program schedule distributed after registration. Before the start of each run, we will remind everyone of their distances and tell everyone where the turn around spots are. The Tuesday night group run will meet at Scheels on the side that faces the Legends Courtyard at 6:30 p.m. The group will meet at Horseman’s Park off Skyline Blvd. on Saturday mornings at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m in summer session and at 8:30 a.m. in fall and winter session.  The times are slightly flexible due to the hot summer weather and our concern for the safety of our runners. The group will run predetermined distances according to the schedule at the Marina or on the Steamboat Ditch trail. See also: Where will we be meeting?

What do I wear?

Wear whatever clothing you are comfortable to exercise in. We will have shoe and clothing clinics to help you with choices if you are unsure of special fabrics and fits.

What do I need to bring?

We will provide water and electrolyte support at the turn around points on the long runs. You may want to bring a water bottle and holder if the weather is very warm or you get thirsty easily.

What if I am a slow runner?

That is okay. Any pace is just fine. Your pace will change as your fitness level changes, but all different paces are welcome.

What if I am unable to attend all of the runs?

That is okay. You can attend whenever you are able. You may want to try to fit it in on your own time, but there is enough leeway built into the program that if you miss just a few runs here and there you should be able to successfully complete the program.

What if I get sick or injured and can’t complete the program?

We have a no refund policy, even in the event of injury or illness. Please review our policies for more information.

What if I have never run before?

That is fine. We have a beginning runners program designed especially for new runners. We recommend that you be able to walk briskly for at least 30 minutes prior to beginning this program. Our 10k program has also been successful for people who are new to running.

Are there any rules on the trail?

We follow basic trail etiquette. This means not leaving any trash out on the trail and making sure that we do not run more than two runners wide at a time. If a runner or walker is coming towards us we recommend you move to single file running so no one feels like they have to step off the trail or like they are going to get run over. We also stay to the right when we run and if you are passing someone you say “on your left” to let them know you are there.

What if the weather is bad?

We will continue to run even if it is raining or snowing. Only in the event of dangerous weather will we cancel a run. Please review our policies for more information. Please make sure you dress properly for the cold weather. It is a good idea to have an extra layer in the car, just in case it is colder or wetter than you planned.

What is the Target Event?

The Target Event is a race that has no relationship with Reno Running and Fitness. We use the Target Event as a way to measure our hard work with successful completion of a real event. You are to register for the event separate from the Reno Running and Fitness Program. You do not have to run the Target Event if you do not want to. You may participate in another Target Event if you would like to, but the training schedule may not coincide with the dates as well as a Target Event does.

Where will we be meeting?

The Tuesday night group run will meet at Scheels at 6:30 p.m. on the side that faces the Legends Courtyard.  If the weather is cold, we will meet in the foyer of Scheels. If the weather is nice, we will meet in the courtyard in front of Scheels. The best place to park is on the west side of Scheels by the restaurant Grimaldi’s.

The group will meet at Horseman’s Park off Skyline Blvd. on Saturday mornings at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m during summer session and at 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. during fall and winter session. The group will run predetermined distances according to the schedule at the Marina or on the Steamboat Ditch trail.

Horseman’s Park is a city park that is located on the corner of Skyline and Pioneer Drive located on the west side of Reno. There is a parking lot there as well. The Sparks Marina is located by Scheels at the Legends Shopping Center.
